Read on to learn tips and troubleshooting recommendations for our Auto-Scan feature.
ℹ️ The Auto-Scan feature is currently in beta mode, which means our developers continue to update and improve functionality.
I don’t see Auto-Scan as an option when I add a room to my project. Why is that?
The Auto-Scan feature is available on devices with LiDAR sensors that can utilize Apple's RoomPlanner technology, which at this time is limited to iPhone 12 or newer Pro/Pro Max or iPad Pro devices. These devices must have iOS 17 or later. If your device does not meet these requirements, then Auto-Scan will not be available in your app.
One of my scanned rooms is missing from the 2D plan. How do I fix this?
If rooms are missing from the 2D sketch once you complete the Auto-Scan, this means that the room walls did not properly close during the scan; you will see these walls indicated in orange while doing the scan. Properly scanned walls will appear as green when you’re ready to complete a room, as in the first image below. An unsuccessful scan will generate an alert message with orange walls, as in the second photo. Here are tips we recommend to mitigate the issue:
- If possible, close room doors to make sure the scan is not capturing adjoining rooms
- Use Manual Scan for open floor plans
- Be sure to scan only one room at a time, tapping the red record button to begin, completing the scan of your room, then tapping the record button again to pause scanning and confirm the scan. Scanning multiple rooms in a single scanning session can result in lost progress if any part of the floor was not scanned correctly.
- Add filler rooms for rooms like closets or hallways that are missing from the 2D sketch
My room did not scan properly (the walls are orange) - is there a way to manually close an Auto-Scanned room?
At this time, there is no method to manually complete a room that has not been properly scanned. The room must be discarded and rescanned. If you attempt a scan multiple times without success, we recommend manually scanning that room. If you're mapping out an open floor plan, we'd suggest starting with the Manual Scan instead.
ℹ️ Note: Some people have found success scanning the ceiling, where the walls and ceiling meet, in open or unusually shaped spaces. While this isn’t a technical recommendation, it is something that you can try.
My scanned room includes a staircase, and the Auto-Scan feature isn’t capturing it. How do I fix it?
Staircases need to be added to your floor plan once the scan is complete. We recommend manually scanning rooms that include staircases. Once your measurements are in place, you can add a staircase object and edit the measurements for that object to fit your floor plan.
Why isn’t Auto-Scan capturing my vaulted/sloped ceiling?
At this time it is not possible to add a sloped or vaulted ceiling in magicplan. You can refer to this article to find tips for annotating your plan with images to accurately capture this detail.
My Auto-Scan added a cabinet instead of a shelf. Why did that happen?
Objects are pulled from the Magicplan library based on what the technology interprets as the best match. If an object is incorrectly interpreted by the Auto-Scan (for example, your couch has been scanned as a table), you can delete it and add the correct one instead, resizing to best represent the real-life version.
