How to Access and Use magicplan's Photo Markup Tools

magicplan’s photo markup tools are designed to streamline the way users document and communicate visual details during site visits or project inspections. These tools can help you annotate photos directly within your project, ensuring accurate and efficient information sharing.

What Are Photo Markups?

Photo markups are visual elements that can be added directly to your photos. Markups in magicplan allow you to:

  • Annotate photos with arrows, text, shapes, and measurements.
  • Highlight problem areas or features within a scene.
  • Integrate visual feedback directly into project reports.
  • Maintain a clean visual history of observations and tasks.

This feature is ideal for field documentation, team communication, and professional reporting.

ℹ️ Note: 360 images added with 360Link can also be annotated, allowing for even more detailed visual documentation.

  1. Launch the magicplan app on your mobile device.
  2. From the home screen, select an existing project or create a new one.

Edit and Annotate Your Photos

Once you have added at least one photo, you'll have the option to edit or annotate each image before saving them to your project.

Adding Captions to Your Photos

  1. Tap the “Caption” icon to add a text caption to your photo. This caption will be included in your Report PDF or Photo Report.
  2. Tap the “x” in the upper right corner of the caption box to close it. Your caption will be added once you save your edits.
    1. You can edit or update the caption as needed at any time.

Edit Your Photo's Size, Clarity, or Orientation

Tap the "Edit" button to crop, rotate, zoom in, or flip your photo.

  • Crop: Allows you to focus only on the portion of the image that is most applicable to your project.
  • Rotate: Ensure that all images are displayed in the correct orientation.
  • Flip: Create a mirror image of the photo you’ve taken.
  • Scale: Zoom in to highlight issues that may be hard to identify in a larger image.

Tap the "Finetune" option from the tool menu to adjust your image's traits for maximum clarity.

  • Brightness: Brighten dim photos to ensure better visibility, or dim brightly lit images.
  • Contrast: Help all features of the image stand out by increasing the contrast.
  • Saturation: Increase color saturation to improve visibility of color-coded features like wiring.
  • Exposure: Further adjust the brightness or dimness of your image.
  • Temperature: Add cool or warm tones to your image.
  • Gamma: Adjust brightness and contrast together, in direct proportion to each other.
  • Clarity: Bring your image into further focus.
  • Vignette: Darken or lighten just the edges of your image to bring attention to the center.

Annotate Your Photo

Tap the “Annotate” button to add markup directly to your image, including arrows, text, shapes, and more. Select your line color and width using the menu options directly beneath your photo to ensure the best visibility.

  • Sharpie: Freehand drawing to highlight areas or sketch.
  • Arrow: Easily add arrows to draw attention to important features. The arrow will change direction as you drag your finger across the image.
  • Text: Add a text box to add commentary or notes to clarify your photos.
  • Rectangle/Ellipse: Add shapes to direct attention or indicate zones of interest.
  • Path/Line: The Path tool allows you to draw a curved line to indicate flow or direction in the image. The Line tool creates straight lines to help highlight.
  • Eraser: Remove any unwanted or unneeded annotations. Simply tap the object you wish to remove while in Eraser mode.

💡 Tip: If annotating a 360 image, you can drag the image to locate the area you wish to annotate, creating a fully interactive note taking experience.
