magicplan’s Files Section: Your Central Hub for Project Documentation
Learn how to import, manage, and access PDFs and other files directly in your magicplan projects.
The "Files" section in magicplan lets you upload and organize documents like PDFs, spreadsheets, and other necessary job documentation so your project information stays in one place. This is especially useful for reference materials, permits, contracts, or any other documentation you want to keep alongside your floor plan.
Here are the file formats you are able to import using the Files section:
- CSV
- XLS
- XLSX
- DOC
- DOCX
- PPT
- PPTX
- SVG
- USDZ
Note: The Files section is restricted to the above file formats. Photo and video file types can be uploaded to the Photos section of your project.
Uploading Files to a Project
There are two ways to add files to your project: by importing them from your computer or mobile device, or by scanning a document directly within the magicplan app.
Option 1: Import Files Using the magicplan Cloud or App
You can upload PDFs and other file types to a project using the magicplan app or cloud. Once uploaded, these files are available in the "Files" section and can be accessed from both the web and the mobile app.
To import a file in the Cloud:
- Go to magicplan Cloud in your browser.
- Open the Workspace and select your project.
- From the Project Dashboard, scroll to the Files section.
- Click the plus (+) button.
- Choose your file(s) from your computer (PDFs, .csv spreadsheets, etc.).
- After uploading, your files will appear in the Files section visual organizer.
To import a file in the App:
- Open the magicplan App on your mobile device and select your project.
- From your Project Dashboard, scroll to the Files section.
- Tap the plus (+) button and select “Import”
- Select the file(s) you wish to upload and tap “Open.”
- After uploading, your files will appear in the Files section visual organizer.
💡 Tip: You can upload multiple files at once to stay organized and save time.
Option 2: Scan a Document in the App
Need to add a physical document with no digital copy? No problem! You can also scan a physical document using your device’s camera and save it directly to your project.
To scan and upload a document:
- Open the magicplan App on your mobile device and select your project.
- From your Project Dashboard, scroll to the Files section.
- Tap the plus (+) button and select “Scan Document.”
- Line up your document in your camera’s viewfinder to capture the image.
- The Document Scanner has an automatic shutter as the default setting. It will automatically detect the edges of the document and the scanned area will be highlighted in blue, then the automatic shutter will capture the image. Keep your camera still during this process.
- Repeat until all documents have been scanned, then tap the “Save” button in the lower right corner.
- The number of scanned documents will be listed beside this button, and thumbnail images of your scans will be visible at the bottom of the screen.
- After uploading, your files will appear as PDF files in the Files section visual organizer.
Managing and Organizing Files
Once a file has been uploaded—whether via the Cloud or the App—it becomes accessible from both the app and the cloud and can be shared from either location. File details can only be edited or changed from the app.
In the magicplan App, you can:
- Rename files
- Edit PDFs with magicplan’s PDF Editor
- Delete old or duplicate files
- View the upload date and time
Common Use Cases
- Upload permits, reports, receipts, or legal documentation.
- Scan and store handwritten notes or inspection sheets.
- Keep reference documents, forms, or checklists all in one place.
