Discover how LiDAR scanning saves time and increases efficiency when creating a floor plan.
The convergence of LiDAR scanning for iOS devices and magicplan has paved the way for a new era of precision and efficiency when mapping out floor plans. This dynamic combination empowers professionals across various industries, from real estate and interior design to construction management. Learn about LiDAR technology and how it works with magicplan to revolutionize space measurement and planning.
What is LiDAR?
LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is a cutting-edge technology that uses laser pulses to measure distances between objects. Originally developed for geographical mapping and topographical surveys, LiDAR has found its way into various applications, including autonomous vehicles, forestry and, most recently, mapping residential and commercial spaces.
LiDAR works by emitting laser pulses and measuring their return time, enabling the creation of dense point clouds, which serve as detailed models of the scanned area. With the ability to capture detailed spatial information down to the millimeter, LiDAR sets an unprecedented standard for precision.

How Does LiDAR Work With magicplan?
With the market introduction of the iPhone 12 Pro/Pro Max and iPad Pro, Apple is the first company ever to offer mobile and tablet devices equipped with LiDAR technology. Apple's powerful LiDAR sensor integrated with the magicplan app allows the creation of accurate 2D & 3D floor plans in real time.
magicplan offers a LiDAR Manual and Auto Scan:
Capture a room by simply pointing your iOS device toward a wall, ceiling, door, window, and electrical outlet, and the LiDAR sensor will swiftly capture the measurements.
Capture multiple rooms and furniture/structural objects in one scanning session.
