What Do the Statistics Mean in magicplan?
Understand How Your Project and Room Stats Are Calculated
magicplan offers a detailed Statistics section that helps you understand the scope of your project by calculating key metrics at both the project and room level. These statistics can assist with planning, estimating, and reporting, giving you a clear overview of your space.
Where to Find Statistics
- Open your project in the magicplan app.
- From your Project Dashboard, find “Statistics” in the left hand sidebar menu, and tap “See All”.
- Review Statistics for Rooms or Objects.
ℹ️ Note: For a more detailed breakdown of all objects included in your project (e.g., furniture, appliances), switch to the “Objects” tab within your Statistics. This tab lists the number of each object type but does not include their dimensions.
Project vs. Room Statistics
When you open the Statistics section in magicplan, you'll see:
- Project Statistics listed first, which summarize totals for the entire building.
- Room Statistics listed below, which break down the same metrics on a room-by-room basis.
Key Statistics Definitions
Here’s a clear breakdown of each available statistic:
Basic Counts
- Floors: Total number of floors in the project.
- Rooms: Total number of rooms across all floors.
- Doors: Total number of door objects placed in the project.
- Windows: Total number of window objects placed in the project.
Surface and Area Measurements
Ground Surface with All Walls
Area of the building's footprint, measured to the outside face of all exterior walls.
- No deductions are made.
- Represents the full extent of the structure.
Ground Surface with Interior Walls
Area measured to the inside face of the exterior walls, excluding wall thickness.
- No deductions for internal elements.
Ground Surface without Walls
Usable interior space, measured to the inside face of exterior walls, and excluding:
- Exterior wall thickness
- Interior walls
- Structural objects
💡Tip: This statistic is best for understanding functional, habitable space, or Living Area.
Wall and Perimeter Calculations
Walls with Openings
Total surface area of all interior walls, including any windows and doors.
- Calculated by height × width of each wall.
Walls without Openings
Same as above, but excluding windows and doors.
- Gives you the net paintable or finishable surface.
Ceiling Perimeter
Total length of all interior walls.
- No deductions for openings.
Ground Perimeter
Total length of all interior walls, excluding door widths.
- Useful for trim or baseboard estimates.
Living Area Calculations
These values follow standards such as ANSI Z765 or DIN277, and are based on your Living Area settings in the app.
- Above Grade Living Area: Living space above ground level.
- Below Grade Living Area: Living space below ground level (e.g., basements).
- Total Living Area: Combined total of above and below grade spaces.
Each is calculated as:
“Ground Surface without Walls” × the room type’s percentage defined in Living Area settings
ℹ️ Note: Total Area as shown in your floor plan during editing will not reflect your Living Area settings, and will instead reflect the "Ground Surface with All Walls" statistic.
Volume
- Represents the three-dimensional space of each room.
- Calculated as:
Length × Width × Height
In project or floor summaries, this is the sum of all individual room volumes.
